The Big 12 almost went out of business and one of its top programs went B1G.
But we think we think we are better off in the B12 over the B10? Hmm. I wonder how come Nebraska, TAMU, Mizzou and Colorado couldn't figure out how much better they were in the B12 over the other P5 conferences.

The SEC and B1G are tier one conferences and the only tier one conferences. Doesn't matter how good or bad the teams are this year or even in any 5 year snapshot. Program strength, footprint, alumni support, school strength etc. puts these two ahead of the rest by a wide margin. Those conferences are going to pile on TV contracts and bowls one right after the other forever. Those are good long term bets. The programs will respond favorably and continue to put out good football teams.

Pac12 is tier two conference with a tier one tv deal that won't get replicated. Pac12 schools just don't get anywhere near the alumni, school or community support that SEC and B1G teams get. Great conference and would be a great fit for BYU, but for football dollar generation it's not an par with the SEC and B1G and won't ever be.

ACC gets a stability boost with ND allegiance, but cannot keep up with the rest. It's a tier 3

B12 is toast in the long term. There are only 2 programs that have proven they can stand the test of time. You can't build a conference on that. It's a tier 3 with the ACC. Eventually, the P12 or B1G or SEC will pick off Texas and Oklahoma and will throw a bone to OSU as a consolation prize to keep Oklahoma lawmakers happy. The remaining programs will join the AAC where they will feel more at home. Once upon a time when it had Nebraska and TAMU is was a big boy conference, but you can't patch those holes with crap like TCU and WV and then pretend like life is going on as normal. If you are pointing to a "surging" of Baylor, one of the all time sorriest programs ever, as proof your conference is for real, the outlook is bleak. Programs left in the Big12 (other than Texas and Ok) are only there because they couldn't get invited anywhere else. Texas is there because it knows it can walk into whatever other conference it wants when it wants and can ride the B12 spiral for as long as it wants. I'd short the Big12. As a BYU fan I'd also happily join the B12 but that's more of a commentary of the state of BYU than an endorsement of the B12.
