I paid attention to the Ray Rice story for the first couple days, and then I tuned it out and went back to watching football.

Once I realized it was going to go the course of every other national discussion that is controversial in nature, I shut it off (meaning no more active following of the discussion)

It seems that nowadays, nothing can be discussed without emotionally charged arguments, demands to fire people, and in general a bunch of outrage that seems contrived.

I love watching football, so I watch the games, but when the topic comes up, I pretty much shut down my listening. I have no desire to participate in a discussion that is completely devoid of logic and reasonable thinking.
