I think Taysom Hill is a better football player because of his knee injury than he would have been without the knee injury. The injury forced him to focus hard on rehabilitating and conditioning and strengthening his entire body so that his chances were minimized of this happening again. Kind of an over-compensation (in a good way) for the original injury. He currently has got to be one of the best-conditioned athletes, if not the best, on the entire BYU team. He runs like a tailback, delivers shoulder blows like a fullback, leaps like a wide receiver, and throws like a good quarterback. He really is built like an iron man athlete and could probably get a look on an NFL roster as a free safety or possibly even a tailback, who knows? Obviously he has a great chance in the NFL as a QB as well.
Okay, now for the epiphany. I think there are some strong correlations and similarities between Taysom's situation and Kyle Collinsworth. Collinsworth was a great young talent with abilities not often seen at BYU. He had a horrible knee injury and had to step back and re-evaluate everything. He had alot of time to think and go over his game, his weaknesses and what he wanted to work on. Also, by all accounts his rehab has turned him into almost a fanatical (in a good way) strength and conditioning guru. He is on track to come back without missing time for the basketball season, and I expect him to be stronger and better than ever.
Though we would never wish an injury on anyone, sometimes an injury can create a set of circumstances for the player to come back stronger, more focused and more determined than they were pre-injury.
I also got stung by a bee today, so if my logic is off, its probably bee venom still coursing through my veins. But I'll come back stronger and better than ever tomorrow.
