I posted previously about our rivalry with Utah and whether it would be like it
was previously when we were in same conference, both mid majors. I felt we should possibly be looking for another rivalry game with others, such as Boise State, Utah State and couple of others. I found this on Cougarfan and thought it to be interesting. What do you all think?

"Former BYU coach LaVell Edwards concurs. (not with me, but Ron McBride as they were discussing this.)

“I hope they keep playing each year, but I question whether it will ever be what it was, with the different leagues,” Edwards said. “I think, had the streak not been broken, it would have had a better chance to continue.”

It won’t be easy to find new rivals, either, unless Utah State starts consistently beating instate opponents. Though the Aggies are making progress, defeating Utah in 2012 and BYU in 2010, the Utes and Cougars have each won 13 of the last 14 against USU.

It could take decades for Utah and BYU to build rivalries with other schools. Some have suggested Boise State and Colorado be BYU’s and Utah’s rivals, respectively.

“I don’t think Colorado means much to Utah, one way or another,” McBride said.

BYU-Boise State, he said, has potential, especially in light of the current series.

“Personally, I’d rather Utah and BYU play every year, just because of the tradition,” Edwards said."
