on the desktop, pretty much. 9 will be more so, but 8.1 probably has you covered if you set it up to your liking. The main issue is your investment in Windows based software. If you have stuff like Adobe Cloud or other easy to move software, not a big deal, but if you have a large investment in PC games or other software, it may not be worth it unless you plan on running a VM or Bootcamp.
Lets put it this way though- those disappointed by transition to Mac's from PC's are pretty rare (though not absent).
