Why was UVA an "ugly" win?
Before the game everyone was predicting that this would be a hard-fought victory with UVA upsetting Louisville the week before. Then as it turns out, it indeed was a hard fought victory and the media are calling it an "ugly" win. What's up with that?

I'd have liked to have seen BYU clean up the penalties and also keep UVA out of the endzone toward the end, but I don't see any shame in beating a team that just beat a ranked Louisville team last week and lost to #12 UCLA by the same margin. Having seen this team up close, I would pencil this Virginia team in as definitive challenger to win the Coastal division of the ACC based on their play to this point in the season and so this could be a very good win for BYU.

Some might point to the box score reflecting 519 yards of offense by UVA to 332 by BYU, but those statistics are a little deceiving as BYU picked up a lot of yardage on defense and special teams that is not reflected in that total (177 kick/punt return yards, 32 int return yards & 275 punting yards). Time of possession and 1st downs are also deceiving as BYU has a hurry-up offense and made a number of huge plays in the game. BYU was also 2-0 in the turnover margin and was ahead in the only statistic that really matters...the final score. If UVA wins a lot of games over the next couple of months, we'll look at this game differently.
