Yesterday at the game I thought that the refs completely blew the first half calls. Seemed very biased. They came out second half and seemed to be officiating by committee, huddling and discussing several of the first penalties before making the call. I commented to my wife that I thought they probably got a phone call telling them to call the game better. Second half seemed better until the last drive.
However, I rewatched the first half of the game this morning, and I don't think the officiating was as bad as it seemed on the field. The first PI I think was questionable, the play at 12:00 in the 2Q was pretty bad (a pretty obvious hold by UVA, and a ticky-tacky PI on BYU), the missed face-mask on Taysom was a missed call, there was also the generous spot that gave UVA a 1st down late in 2Q. Other than that, most of the times it seemed like the refs blew a call (a couple of PI calls on BYU), the video showed that they made the right call.
I remember seeing a couple of other holds by the UVA o-line, as well as several pushes in the back on defenders to keep them from getting to the QB, but they either weren't on the broadcast, or weren't as bad as they seemed in game.
But... in the end, we won, right? Why complain about the refs if we won?
