Recall that the 1984 team was coming off a #7 final ranking in 1983, and had a
11-game winning streak going into 1984. This year's team doesn't start with those significant advantages.
If this year's team can go undefeated, or even finish with just one loss (as long as it's not in a minor bowl game), then next year's team will start out with the same sort of advantage that the 1984 team had, in terms of respect/recognition.
