He has a smooth voice and tons of anecdotes. For me,
Vin Scully doing radio for baseball is one of the few things happening in the world where I can close my eyes and have the same experience I had as a kid. I'm not that old, but all of the following things are true about me:

1. The first music I bought was a vinyl single. And it wasn't remotely retro.
2. It felt like I was on the cutting edge when I got a record player with a radio and a spot to play and record cassette tapes.
3. As a freshman at BYU, I thought of a CD player as something to wait on until the price dropped after the posers had paid the higher R&D price.
4. I hadn't used the internet until after I graduated from college. My first connection was a 14K dial up. If you're young, you have no idea how slow that is and how long it took to load each page.
5. The great majority of people didn't have cable television and satellite wasn't Dish or DirecTV, it was the gigantic dish you see at church stake centers.
6. It was almost unimaginable that missionaries would teach inside the Soviet Union in my lifetime.
7. ATMs were a relatively new invention when I started college.
8. I watched the baseball Game of the Week on Saturdays as a kid and Vin Scully did the announcing.
