7. Those of you hoo know me from the old days of the Soapbox know I'm not inclined to be terribly supportive of LDS given some of their very vocal (and well-funded) positions on equal rights. I still don't like that. BUT--by far the nicest fans on the planet. Hooever is 2nd isn't even close. Almost to a point of caricature. While Vandy fans (also very nice) in Omaha would tease my boy and say "wrong 'V' there!" and it would be cute and fun, BYU fans would actually say "good luck to our teams!" "Our teams"? Hoo says that?

Three different police asked if we were having a good time and if we needed anything. About 20-30 fans came up before, during, and after the game and said how much they liked our team, asked if we were having fun, thanked us for coming, etc. The BYU fans in the Virginia section were knowledgeable and nice.

I thought I'd finally gotten a tough BYU fan because the refs had (correctly) called a few PI penalties late and they were (incorrectly) booing hard. The first person to come up to me after the game said in a gruff voice "I got just one thing to tell you"--I was sure it was about celebrating after the last TD or about the refs. "Put a stomping on Florida State for us, will ya? You're the fastest team we've played, you're a lot better than Texas, and you're going to surprise some people this year."

Not a single even remotely negative comment, look, or anything. All positive. Even when they were losing at the half, lots of "great game, eh?" kind of comments. Towards the end I kept thinking "man, Maryland would have so many more visitors if they were like this." I know I'm going to be extra nice to visitors next time I'm at Scott.
