vacougfan's great post reminded me of this...

I posted this a while back in reference to a BYU graduate that I work with. Considering that I generally think highly of BYU fans and the LES experience I thought I'd share some of my experiences with the BYU grad that I work with...

It's interesting to me to see the contrasting comments from a Virginia fan who openly admitted he is usually not a big fan of Mormons yet he said some awfully nice things about his LES experience.

These types of Ute fans by the way are officially my least favorite.

My awkward encounters with a BYU graduate...

For starters, I'm not a BYU grad. I wish I were and have made it a goal for my kids to attend for a variety of reasons. (Whole different topic however). I work with a BYU grad. His Mom, Dad, and several family members are BYU alumni. He was born and raised in Idaho with absolutely no connections to the Utes.

So, I of course noticed all the Ute shirts, Ute Jackets etc... That he would wear to work. It struck me as odd cause not only is he a BYU grad but also an EQ president, a Peter Priesthood type, and just your typical clean cut out of state Mormon guy, again with no Ute connections.

Last season he learns that I'm a passionate BYU fan. Since then almost every time he speaks to me he says "you guys" (in reference to BYU) and also says "us" or "we" (in reference to the Utes). So one day I ask how he became a Ute fan... He gives me this overly dramatic story of him being a loyal, strong, and true BYU fan who was one day sitting in his season ticket seat and witnessed a fellow BYU fan raise his voice at an opposing fan. So that day on he couldn't stand the idea of aligning himself with hypocrites. While he's telling me the story and while I'm waiting for the story to take a reasonable turn at some point, I'm thinking "sacrament Jell-O shots, posters mocking Garments/Mormons and other atrocities displayed by Ute fans. I ended up just walking away confused by his weak rationale.

Now that its football season, he's again throwing out the "you guys" and the "we's"... I just find it awkward coming from an actual BYU alum and me not being on the team or an alum. However, knowin the guy there's no question that this guy is a Ute.
