If there is no interest in any hard science, don't suffer through it for the sake of going into patent law.
However, recently the ABA has approved law schools (including BYU) to accept students with a higher (I think 3.7 and above) undergrad GPA into law school without making them take the LSAT. So LSAT scores don't matter as much anymore if you want to go to law school at the same school as your undergrad (another requirement for acceptance w/out LSAT).
Further, law schools (particularly BYU) seek out students with hard science backgrounds over those with liberal arts undergrads because they know that it is easier to get a job post graduation, which helps boost the school's numbers and US News rating. So if you can get good grades in a hard science major, you're actually a little more likely to get a little extra nudge in admissions. However, even if you're a hard science major, it would be smart to take extra writing classes as an undergrad.
