Back in "your day"...did any coach ever ask you to cheap shot or
do something dirty during a game? And if they did...did you perform the questionable deed? Or did you refuse to do it?

(The cheap shot video of Taysom kicking and getting leveled made me think of this.)

Most of my coaches were pretty on the up and up. I did have two coaches, one in basketball, one in football that asked me to do questionable things because of the aggressiveness and 'on the edge' of the opponent...and I did it! Yikes.

Football - (in todays world, I would have received a flag for 'helmet-to-helmet' hitting). I was small (9th grade) and was placed on the offensive line as a tackle because I wasn't afraid to hit and tangle with people. Well, the opposing D-lineman was probably one of the best in our league...and ate everyone up. My coach told me that on the first pass play, at the snap, I was to go back into my stance, and when he bull rushed me to get to the QB...I was to launch my helmet right into his facemask!!!! (And I DID this!). So...the first play, he rushed to basically run over me (much bigger than I was)...and I hunched down, and launched, and hit him right in the face. Drop him like a sack of potatoes! He went out for a play or two. We punted. The next series and for the rest of the game (as he made a mental note)...he basically forgot about the game and made a point to just kick my #$%! trash all game long. lt was one of the longest, most beat down games I ever played. (I know...I deserved it! But it wasn't illegal back in the day! Is that good enough to justify being cheap??!!??)

Basketball - high school. The guy guarding me was WAY overly aggressive and would be behind me and try to front me by basically riding my back and placing his head over my shoulder with an arm out in front in ball denial. Refs were idiots and wouldn't call any pushing, riding etc....so, my coach told me to just put both arms up as if I was calling for the ball. Then....subtly...'call for the ball' by raising my arms further up (essentially ramming my elbow/lower arm right into the underside of his jaw). I did this once and he was pissed! Next time down the floor, he rode me again in that same defensive style and I did it again, and he was so pissed that he shoved me at the top of the key. Drew a foul on him. He never did that again nor played ball denial on my for the rest of the game.
