Does anyone know how typical/atypical this is and why BYU doesn't weight them?

I have friends who have decided that the AP classes just aren't worth it for their high school daughter who really wants to attend BYU. She's very smart but doesn't want to risk not getting As in everything.

So is the BYU GPA weighted or not? Are AP classes worth 5.0?

AP classes are worth the same as every class no higher than 4.0

It may not get her a 4.0+ GPA, but the admissions committee will still look at

I heard they are weighted by how good the H.S. is though.

BYU uses unweighted GPAs, then adds points for things, such as AP classes
