Short version: get me to an elite 8 or better. Otherwise meh.
Longer version: I know we have a fantastic basketball tradition at BYU. In fact, one can argue that the overall quality of the hoops program has been better for longer than the football program (which also has a very good tradition, obviously). I also believe that Coach Rose is presiding over arguably the best era of our excellent basketball history.
I'm appreciative of all of that.
However, as good as things are and have been there is one frustrating bottom line: 1 Sweet 16 since the tourney expanded to 64. That's it. This drives me bonkers. We have never been to a Final Four and our last Elite 8 was over a generation ago. Because of the high standard and regard I have for our basketball program, I find this completely unacceptable. In the almost 30 years of the field of 64+ we should have a few Sweet 16s, a couple elite 8s, and a final four by now.
There is nothing, absolutely nothing, I want more from a sports fan standpoint than for a BYU final four. That clouds my view of the regular season. I'm not advocating for the firing of Rose or anything like that, but until BYU makes it happen in the tournament the regular season doesn't have that much flavor for me.
