My boys have left the last two games we've attended in tears and do NOT have
fond memories of it at all. (Virginia last year and UCF this year.) They care too much about the team and wanting to see them be successful and even at 12 and 10, they recognize bad football when they see it.

Their friends are Auburn and Alabama fans. Their uncle lives in Tallahassee. The rest of their family lives in Boise. We watch all these other teams play their games (we love football and we want to be able to discuss games with our friends and family.) Then we watch BYU play.

My boys are starting to ask, "Why are we BYU fans?" They have been raised that way, but they don't live in Utah, we are not active members (and never will be), and BYU has been pretty pedestrian since 2010 (which is as far back as they can remember for kids of that age.) They were absolutely devastated Saturday night to the point where I may not let them watch any more BYU games this season.

I still like the morals and ethics of the program, but my boys go a lot by what they see on the field. And they have asked me why BYU gets so many dumb penalties and particularly personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conducts. It's hard to sell the character side of things with all of that. So what is there to make them stick with this team and why would I keep shelling out the big bucks to travel to these games out here and then endure a despondent 8 hour car ride home? We're going to MTSU, but that may be our last one for a good while.
