The comics are much better than the show. I would argue that the 1st season of WD was the best, the second not as good and going steadily downhill until about half way through last season (spoiler) around the time the Gov drives them out of the prison (/spoiler). The last half of last season was on par with first season, and this season has had a real good start.

After reading the comics, it seems like all of the best parts of the show (1st season, last half of last season) came directly from the comics. Everything that was unique to the show just wasn't as good.
