Some people think that BYU can and should be able to compete with the upper echelon programs, even with a severely limited recruiting/talent pool. In one sense, it's Bronco's wins over teams like OU, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State, Georgia Tech, TCU, Texas etc that have created this expectation. Not only did BYU win those games, they did so in dramatic fashion. Bronco is, in essence, a victim of his own success. Those wins gave fans the expectation of great things...ALL THE TIME...when in reality, BYU has always been a good G5 team, but not a P5 team. We just don't have the horses to get it done, and with the HC being relevant to BYU's mission statement, I don't ever seeing BYU being a consistent P5 program. We'll be good at times, at great at other times, but we won't ever been "always great" and that fact doesn't sit well with a lot of good fans...but it's the reality we're dealing with.
