What is the difference between BYU/TCU/Utah in the years they won big (conf titles, national championship, bc games) and the Alabama's of the world? For byu, once every 10 years, we have the planet's align in our favor and we have an amazing gelling of talent, heart, and health, and when that happens, a bunch of 2 and 3 star players combine for a magical season. But the Alabama's of the world are infused with talent 2 or 3 or 4 deep at every position, so their average year is our magical year. They fall to a new years day bowl while that would represent our realistic best case scenario. Why is that the case? Depth. Why do we have poor depth? Recruiting, which I don't think can ever be expected to be higher than 40-50th ranked unless we get into a B5 conference, which is notgoing to happen.

Georgia had a Heisman trophy candidate go down (for off field issues) and they plugged in the next guy, and what has happened? Arguably they got better. Someone breaks an arm? Plug in the next guy. Keep going.

WE WERE NEVER CLOSE to the playing level of anyone in the top 10, may be top 15. Even before our injuries we were a top 25 team, maybe top 20. As of the weekend, TCU, Utah, and everyone in the current top 10 would've shut us down even before our injuries. Did you all not see the Houston and Virginia victories?

So please stop saying we were only some bad luck away from being in the playoff, or even a new years day game. Injuries happen, it's part of the game, a team is only as good as its depth almost always. If you can't plug someone else in, then your team is not that great. We have not been able to get to the quarterback, we have not been able to cover the deep ball, and we haven't been able to throw deep nor anywhere in the middle of the field, BEFORE THE INJURIES.

And having depth at one or two or three positions is another way of saying we have no depth. We are what we are, a 4-3 team. Temper your expectations and don't hold your breath for 1984 or 1996 to happen again, and maybe you'll enjoy football again.
