Austin ended passing a city ordinance that outlawed houses that were a defined
percentage larger or a certain amount of feet taller than the average house in the neighborhood, but only for specific neighborhoods where this was a problem. Haven't heard people complain about it since. That was maybe 10 years ago, before the housing bubble burst.
