Even as die-hard BYU fan, who will never deny his affiliation, flies a flag in North Salt Lake on game day, drives a car with "Y" plates to a downtown office every day, etc., I have an admission.
When I see someone wearing BYU gear, I think there is a slightly-better-than-average possibility that they are lacking in basic social abilities.
I'm talking about the margins, of course.
I loaded up a visitor from another country with BYU gear not long ago. I worried a little I was setting him up for ridicule.
Has it always been this way? When Steve Young was winning a superbowl, was BYU a little bit cooler?
Let me be clear, I don't think this is a problem. I'm excited for anyone, no matter who, to be a fan. Even the guy in the seats behind me who yells from 200yards away at the refs. Glad to have you!
