Teams that do not have speed and personnel to penetrate into the key usually
lack a solid half court offense unless they can put out three shooters. Let's face it too, when Carlino penetrated it rarely created offense for anyone but him and that killed us later in the season when every team knew that and it turned into a triple team wall that Carlino was running into.

The half court set was much improved last year once KC took over at the point guard spot. We beat USF, gonzaga, and SMC with a much slower pace and that did not bother KC as much because he used his penetration to get the offense going and not get his 12 foot runner over the triple team. KC, while not your prototypical PG in physique, is your prototypical PG in mindset. He is the leader on this team and he wants everyone involved.

Like I said in my post yesterday, the speed on the wing is the one thing that worries me with this team. Rose knows that we do not have it so he creates it by running the break. When teams drop three after the shot (which most do now) to counteract the break, KC is much more capable of getting everyone involved in the half court set.

I am not sold on a back up yet. It should be fun to see that spot play out in the next coming weeks.
