That's the kind of change I made 6 months ago.
I completely cut out sugar, started working out 5 times a week, cut out most of my carbs and have been strict about it. I am now just a couple pounds from my goal weight and am at about a 15% body fat percentage. It's been awesome but also extremely tough. Don't give up and don't let one bad decision throw you off.
