While reading the books, I wasn't just waiting for a finish. I read them for each piece of the story.

It's sort of like how I watch a football game. There are plenty of people who just want the final score and not much more. Their focus is to see who will win and who will lose. Once they think they've got that figured out, they're done.
I'm a weirdo who enjoys individual plays. I'll enjoy a good play regardless of the score.
