what the anti-bronco-ites are NOT saying:
we are not saying bronco's players don't love him...he engenders loyalty at an alarming rate among his players
we are not saying bronco can't recruit...he does.
we are not saying bronco can't coach D...he's amazing.
we are not saying he hasn't [re]branded BYU back to glory days...he has (in a way that's been part of his downfall...when you tie yourself to an era that won a NC and heisman awards, etc that's a really high bar...you better be ready to jump it.)
what we are saying...and i'm using a personal experience b/c it's all i have...i'm an immigration attorney.
no matter how many pro-bono immigration seminars i gave, or how nice i was to my clients, or how many clients loved me, or how well i got along with my fellow attorneys/staff at my office...if i don't WIN my cases and BRING IN MONEY to the firm...i get fired. plain and simple. no matter how much my bosses like me they will fire me if i can't bring home the bacon, as it were.
bronco's win trajectory is down, which is disturbing considering his recruits were, allegedly, higher ranked than the ones he inherited from crowton and won 10-11 games with. he is not meeting his own goals for the program (top-25 finishes, 10+wins, NY6 type bowls, NC's). in fact, he's not even close...and hasn't been since 2009...that was FIVE seasons ago...that is an ETERNITY in college football...especially today. we were in the MWC with Utah and TCU. now they are in P5 leagues and we are indy. 8-5 is SUICIDE as an independent. i get that bronco's %'s are as good as lavell's...it's a different world now, and if you can't at least achieve the peaks that lavell got to, you shouldn't have tied your program's success to those standards.
10 years is a long time to wait...i hope he rights the ship this season...i'd like to see what he can do with a senior taysom, jamaal, mitch, kurtz, etc, etc and that schedule, especially if he focuses some more on defense. but if he can't by 2015, i'm done. don't extend contract...let him sail off to hawaii to surf and be a professor or club rugby coach.
