BYU second halves by the Numbers
I dug up some numbers from this season that I found interesting, all these numbers are based on points scored:

3rd quarter (The Texas games inflates these numbers)
BYU Total Points Scored: 69
BYU Average Points Scored: 9.9
BYU Average Points Scored in Wins: 11.3
BYU Average Points Scored in Losses: 8
Opponent Total Points Scored: 28
Opponent Average Points Scored: 4

4th quarter
BYU Total Points Scored: 45
BYU Average Points Scored: 6.4
BYU Average Points Scored in Wins: 8.6
BYU Average Points Scored in Losses: 3.3
Opponent Total Points Scored: 59
Opponent Average Points Scored: 8.4

To start 3rd quarter
BYU Average Lead in Wins: 8.7
BYU Average Lead in BYU Losses: 4.5

To start 4th quarter
BYU Average Lead when in the Lead: 13.7

Only once has BYU not been in the lead by at least 7 points going into the 4th quarter this year, and that was against Utah State. It's clear that the 4th quarter is where BYU is clearly failing, being outscored by 2 points on average (even though BYU has a winning record). At no point has BYU come back to win a game when not leading in the 4th quarter (maybe that's why BYU fans leave early). Clearly, something has to change in the 4th quarter, and I believe it is mental toughness because we cannot overcome losing in the that quarter. As someone has stated, it has been since 2001 that BYU had a last second field goal to win. I am not sure when the last time BYU came back in the 4th quarter to win a game, but clearly belief and mental toughness is lacking.
