First, Bronco takes back over the D. Whether this week or next after another debacle tonight, I don't know. All I know for almost certain is that Howell won't be the DC next year.
Second, the D gets back up to par. How soon, I don't know, but it will be back up to par to start next season.
Third, we have a solid foundation right now on offense. This is a very young o-line this year that should only be better next year. Whether Taysom comes back, or Mangum/Hosick step in, what matters the most is that o-line. On top of that, almost every other skill player returns aside from Leslie. The offense should be pretty good next no matter who the QB is.
Fourth, Bronco isn't getting fired after this season. Holmoe is not going to fire a coach that has never had a losing, never missed a bowl game, and isn't about to have a losing season nor miss a bowl game this year. 7-6 is the worst we do.
Given all of the above, we'll have a pretty good season next year. Whether that translates to NY6, I don't know. We'll probably lay an egg somewhere along the way, but an 11-2 or even 10-3 season mean's Bronco's job will still be safe. It will probably also mean he'll get another contract extension.
If any of you question 11-2 next year thinking we've got a really tough schedule, take a look at it. UCLA, Nebraska, and Michigan all have issues right now. And really, once we get out of September we've basically got an MWC schedule.
The rub is that I think we've got the players to have a special season next year. It most likely won't happen because of Bronco and his yearly "we weren't prepared for _______" game, but 11-2 or even just 10-3 will mean his job is safe and he'll continue on being who he is. That's how I see this playing out over the next two years.
