Things looking REALLY good for BYU Soccer
Last night BYU crushed a very good Santa Clara team (who had the second best record in the WCC). The final score was 5-2, which is very impressive, but Santa Clara was lucky it wasn't much worse. There were multiple shots of the cross bar and we played the entire second half of the game on their defensive side. It was complete domination.

With that win BYU is undefeated in conference play. Their next three games are against San Francisco, St. Mary's and Pacific. These three teams are amongst the worst of the conference (though San Fran has a 2-2 record because they haven't played anyone tough in their wins). BYU should cruise past them, but the way BYU is playing we will probably go all out against them and obliterate them.

The last game is against Pepperdine who is very good. However, if BYU wins those other three games, they could actually lose to Pepperdine and still win the conference outright. That would mean that BYU will have been conference champions three straight years (out of 4 total seasons in the conference). This is impressive by itself, but the WCC is a tremendous soccer conference too so the achievement is all the more impressive.

Of course, it would be better to beat Pepperdine and finish undefeated in conference. With that last victory over Pepperdine, BYU would have a 14 game winning streak and a top 15 victory. We would get a very strong seed and have a great chance to make a serious run in the tournament. The way this team is playing right now, they could be compared to the elite 8 team BYU had a few years ago. Certainly no guarantee that they will perform as well in the tourney, but their performance in the last few 10 games has been that good.

The crazy thing is that most of this team is comprised of sophomores and freshman. Ashley Hatch is only a sophomore! That girl plays like Diego Costa. She is so freaking chippy. I love it. If you like soccer, you should check these games out. They are available for replay on BYUtv.
