I think that we realize that Bronco is a mixed bag. He has done some good things and he has had his share of missteps. Here is how I see it. Please fee to add to or dispute these items.
The Good:
Brought stability to a program that was reeling
Cleaned up a program that had some off the field incidents
Brought defense to a program that wasn't known for defense
Brought back the stretch "Y" (arguably his best achievement)
Instituted a cool program in "Thursday's Heroes"
Maintains a good win percentage
Consistently appears in bowls and has a respectable win percentage in those games
The Bad
Mismanaged the most critical position in all of college football: the quarterback: Bronco has yet to recruit/develop a high school quarterback who succeeds on the college level; most quarterbacks under his tenure have been transfers
Allowed the second most important position (offensive line) to slide for too long
Thus far failed to turn a good season into a special season, even when presented with favorable schedules
Shortage of sending players to the next level, either because of recruiting or lack of development
Lack of hiring quality assistants; the Bronco coaching tree looks like a Kentucky family tree; whiffed twice on hiring d-coordinator and had to take back position
Personal idiosyncrasies that alienate some recruits, fans and media
The recruiting approach of "they recruit us"
Silly slogans for the season: "Quest for Perfection" was a bad idea as was "Spirit, Honor, Tradition"
The Ugly
Brutal record against instate rival, including 4 losses in a row and 54-10 butt-kicking: still calls them out for not wanting to play
Losing to Utah State twice in 5 years
Throwing players under the bus: the "phenomenal scheme" comment last week was at best a poor choice of words
