Yes, BYU won, and Taysom was very impressive, but the dominating performances and blowouts we were hoping for didn't occur. The defense wasn't as strong as we were hoping, and, frankly, the offense was too reliant on Hill. Some of us convinced ourselves that the Huskies, Cavaliers, and Cougars from H-Town were better than they really were. That BYU beat some very good, up-and-coming teams, rather than survived some mediocre teams that shouldn't have been in the game against a legitimate national calibre team.
The injuries were the catalyst, not the fundamental cause of BYU's problems the past 4 weeks. The fundamental issues were there before. If everyone stayed healthy, given the weak overall schedule, they could have kept up the charade for awhile, but at some point it was bound to come crashing down. But no one could have predicted how spectacular the crash would be.
