How close was BYU to Central Florida? One more play made in regulation, and BYU wins that game.

Utah isn't MUCH better, but they have made smart and timely plays in clutch that they wouldn't have made the last two years. Last year against OSU they had an easy interception go through their DBs hands, OSU scores a TD on the next play and wins. They played Arizona, UCLA, and Arizona St. down to the wire but had balls go through receiver's hands, turn overs, etc. One play was literally the difference between winning and losing those games.

The last two year's teams would have found a way to blow the OSU and UCLA games, no question in my mind. Utah outplayed UCLA but had to drive down 80 yards with no passing game for the go ahead field goal. Against OSU, they drove down to score the go ahead TD in regulation after having no offense, including 2 fourth down conversions.

They aren't A LOT better, but they made plays in two games to win.
