Given the honor code and shifts in views about sexuality in the past 20 years, BYU is going to have a hard time attracting most non-lds recruits who have options. That's just the way I see it. Few athletes will accept that they are expected to be abstinent during college. That is a really, really difficult hurdle for many recruits.
That leaves LDS guys, mostly. I wanted to know if the state if the program was a result of messing up recruiting them. I'd say there is room for improvement, but nothing horrible is going on.
Which leaves me wondering if "it is what it is." We pretty much have the LDS players we should. I realize we need non-lds players, but I also believe it is really, really difficult to recruit over other programs for the talented players. Sooooo, do what?
Heck, even players who aren't LDS but believe in abstinence probably won't come to BYU if they have other options. Why would they?
In short, how the heck did we get Jamaal?
