My inlaws told me this after years of me trying to get it out of them.
They literally don't like to talk about it. And told me they would never tell it to me again.

Probably 10 or so years ago they were driving threw southern/central utah when they stopped at a gas station in Hanksville. Its them and their 5 kids, ages 6-14 or so .... the gas station attendant keeps pushing them to buy a book about skinwalkers. Apparently he was pretty creepy looking and just wouldn't drop it. They decline, and as they are walking out he says something rude. They don't remember exactly what was said, but just remember thinking the creepy old guy was a jerk. Its late, around midnight or so, and they are exiting Hanksville and they see a guy with a long ponytail, no shirt or shoes hitchhiking on the side of the freeway. They blow past him obviously and as soon as they drive past all of the lights in the suburban go out, headlights, dash lights, everything .... so they are going like 80 mph in pitch black. My FIL slams on the brakes in the middle of the freeway, gets out and sees the guy running towards them. He jumps into the car and speeds off in the pitch black ... about a half mile or so later the lights turn back on and everything is fine.

It was pretty creepy to here them tell it.
