LaVell didn't do so hot with that grading scale either after 1984
In 16 seasons,
Only 1 time with 2 or fewer losses,
Only 6 times with Top 25 finishes,
Only 3 times with Bowl wins
10 wins over Utah (7-1 in first 8 seasons and 3-5 in last 8 seasons)
Only once in 16 years did he achieve all 4 in the same season.
Compare that to pre-1984, in 13 seasons,
6 times with 2 or fewer losses (5 after Arizona and ASU left WAC)
6 times with Top 25 finishes (5 after Arizona and ASU left WAC)
4 times with Bowl wins (all 4 after Arizona and ASU left WAC)
