I would not advise trying it now
But if in the coming years college football gets way out of hand, I can see schools looking for alternative to hoping and dreaming of being P5 school someday.
But down the road BYU and other schools could face a choice. Either pony up money that you don't have or get out of the game. I could see this actually happening naturally as the P5 further separate themselves from the NCAA and refuse to play non P5 schools.
