Money spent on City Creek, Cattle Ranches in FL, Hi-rise in Philly or BYU Fball
Football.

Is there really that much of a difference?

I have been up till now, more or less in the camp that spending Church $ on BYU football is not a good idea and that it may "send the wrong message," re: what we are about as a Church.

But, it seems like the past several years, the Church has made the decision that the commercial side is ok, and perhaps even needed to fund operations - or at least to control the environment (City Creek and Philly, for example).

But, I don't really mind, because you have to do something with donations received - whether that is stick it in the bank, buy more stocks, or build a commercial venture - I'm not sure there is a whole lot of difference...it's just a diversification tool.

The Church regularly pays for PR - out of what funds? I'm a Mormon campaign, Meet the Mormons, big bucks for ad placements on big sites, etc. Jimmer had an ad value of tens of millions we were told. If the administration continues to use the argument that BYU football and BYU sports are a missionary tool (at least in part) then why wouldn't they provide that tool with the resources necessary to be a successful one?
