BYU doesn't spend the money the top P5 programs spend on coaching and other areas. BYU has other non-football priorities that the big programs don't have. BYU is a big fish in a small pond...would probably be a small fish in a P5 conference. BYU is non-P5 but has stated it wants to be P5. That's why I say we are in "no man's land".
So what's next for BYU football? We don't know when the B12 might invite us. But perhaps the bigger questions is: what direction will the BOT move if college football changes into a semi-pro league in which players are compensated, etc. My fear is that 50% of the BOT already thinks college football is too big. Would that move to 75% if the demands went way up?
I want to go big or go away. I want to keep up with the big guys or drop the program. I would hate to see the brand "BYU Football" take a further hit by not keeping up. Some of you will be glad for any BYU football just for entertainment sake. I'm much more concerned with reputation and image. So I hope the increasing demands of NCAA football force BYU's hand: either go big or drop out
