I get what he was saying, that your career isn't everything in life, but you never, ever, never tell your boss or clients that. "Yeah, I like my job, but it's just 5th most important in my life." That will work when things are going well, but when you struggle your boss and your clients are going to think, "maybe he isn't taking this seriously enough." If your mechanic said that to you, and then your car stalled out a month later, wouldn't you question his work ethic?
Now that BYU has fallen from 4-0 to 4-4, fans are wondering in Mendenhall still has the drive after a decade to run the program. A loss today, as implausible as that may seem, would really get fans worried about a losing season and the future of BYU football.
