Don't get me wrong, I am EXTREMELY grateful for BYUTV and the chance I have to watch my Cougs play almost all of their basketball games. I love the production quality, and I'm especially loving the chance to watch them in HD on a big screen with the new BYUTV app on my Xbox.

That said - I Do have a few things that I wish the announcers would work on:

1) Dave McCann puts me to sleep. Maybe this post is doing the same to you. Literally. Like probably most of you, I'm a BYU sports fanatic - I look forward to watching football and basketball more than doing almost anything all week. Never-the-less, I have already actually fallen asleep during the 2nd half of two basketball games! Granted, the outcome was decided already for both - but I'm thinking of taping McCann's voice and playing it nights when counting sheep doesn't work. I like Dave as a person, but he's about as interesting during ball games as listening to paint dry.
2) McCann can't get a black guys name right. Winder is Bartley and Bartley is Winder. Get used to it. Embrace it, love it.
3) Fowler is a bit hyperbolic. I know - I criticize McCann for being boring and then Fowler for exaggerating things. I've met Fowler and again I like the guy, but he gushes praise for almost every player. Nixon, by the way - is EXTREMELY athletic for a 6'7" player. He also has a tremendous vertical leap. Really? I like Nixon, I think he's a lot of things, but athletic? By the standards of major college basketball? No, not even above average athleticism. Sorry, Blaine - call it like it is, man.

Having said that, it's gotta be hard filling up so much air time with two guys talking. Both guys are better in the AFR setting, although it's Logan and Nixon that make that show, IMO. No announcer is perfect, and if McCann were more upbeat and interesting, someone out there would say they wish he'd just calm down and stay focused on the game. Anyone else want to vent?
