Um, here's a radical concept: The Church owns BYU, so they get to set the rules
If they wanted to give the athletes a pass on the Honor Code in order to win more football games, they could. They don't want to.
Whining about how BYU could win more if they didn't have LDS standards is like whining how Navy could be national champs if they'd get rid of the military service requirement.
