CFB will expand the playoffs for 2 reasons, and one of them is not because it's unfair in its current format.

1 the fans don't like it. They want more teams involved. The bowls will lose interest due to the playoffs. Fans want more meaningful offseason games, not fewer and not more silly bowls.

2 Money. FCS expanded theirs to 22 teams because they make good money. How much could FBS make with 16 teams?

Money will force them to expand. Fans see the current format is seen as a small step in the right, but not the finals destination.
