BYU vs UU Recruiting Since 2010

In light of Brandon Doman's comments about BYU's recruiting and all of the posters who took issue with it, here are the head to head recruiting numbers from both Rivals and Scout.

I tried to find a third ranking site to get a better picture but I couldn't find anything reliable that went back to 2010. If anyone else has a good source, let me know.

For each recruiting service I have both the national class ranking and the average stars per commit. The row labeled "Average" is obviously the average over the six years and the line below that is what the averages would look like without 2010 (our best recruiting year) in the data.

According to Rivals we have been getting dominated for the past six years. Utah's recruiting classes have been 21 spots better than ours on average! Only last year did we finally have more average stars per recruit and that was due more to Utah slipping than to our recruiting dramatically improving.

Scout is a little more favorable to us. They have our average stars higher half the time but overall Utah's classes still rank higher by 9 spots and their recruits are slightly higher ranked on average. As you can see, the difference become more pronounced after 2010 is taken out.

In my mind, the argument about whether Utah develops players better than BYU isn't as important as the fact that Utah is/has been recruiting better players. If BYU wants to compete with Utah in 2016 and beyond, then recruiting needs to improve significantly.
