I admit that I was not clear in my earlier statement so I am going to be clear
Looking at situations, 1. where coaches are fired for on-field performance issues, 2. coaches with overall records similar to Bronco (w/o losing seasons in recent years):

is a recipe for disaster.

There are few examples that are close* but I don't think necessarily fit BYU's situation right now.

FSU-Bowden to Fisher
OSU-Cooper to Tressel
Florida-Zook to Meyer
Oregon-Bellotti to Kelly

To address these situations

1. If you think BYU is similar to those four programs (in terms of $, prestige) I would kindly disagree. Oregon is probably the one we're closest to.
2. In three of the 4, you were basically forcing out a longe-time coach (20 plus years in all three).
3. In three of the 4, the AD already knew the hire before firing (and maybe OSU knew they wanted Tressel too, but I am not as familiar with that one).
4. In two of the 4, it was an internal hire, someone who was only going to tweak things, not revamp the whole thing.

I realize these are caveats and people can disagree but these are my thoughts.
