major minutes. One reason any opening game is so dangerous, and why i repeatedly expressed concern about the LB game, is all the line-up experimenting, jelling, and in BYU's case, KC's health concerns.
Before the BYU game i suggested LB would win at least 3 games vs top 50 teams this season, and still finish 3rd in their underrated Big West conference where UC Irvine and UCSB may be stronger.
Regarding the Cougars, they have met my expectations so far with the following reservations:
1. KC's recovery;
2. Aytes, an inside force with no reasonable alternative, out for the season;
3. Effectiveness on defense, despite the hard work and apparent commitment. Though the man D is better than last year, i do wonder if they would still be better playing mostly zone. Good D will show up in lower FG% of opponents, higher turnover rate, and more blocks.
Against SDSU, keeping the Aztecs off the offensive boards could be a key number. Some say that is more difficult to do from a zone D, at least from the 1-3-1.
