Ok... here's your explanation
You watched a movie set approx 60 years from now.

Earth's vegetation has been infected with a blight that is destroying its ability to produce food.

The remains of NASA are looking for a suitable replacement planet.

They are joined by a former astronaut farmer who was brought into the program by seemingly mystical means.

They blast off to find a new planet through a wormhole that has appeared near Saturn.

Then things get strange...

According to the movie, strong gravity messes with Time so a first trip to a seemingly promising planet that takes 2 hours for the away team takes 25 years for everyone else.

Don't as why they would risk the journey to this planet first as it is nonsensical.

Then they go to a second planet where Astronaut Mann has been sending out false reports of finding a good planet so he will be rescued.

Somewhere along the lines here they find out their mission to find a new planet for earth's population can't work unless they have data from the inside of a black hole.

So now they have to go inside the black hole and get the data.

Inside the black hole is a rift in space time and the necessary data is communicated by the astronaut programming an old wrist watch which he can manipulate through the rift in space-time with all of the necessary equations... in morse code of a jumping second hand.

Don't ask why he can manipulate a watch to function this way and not a pencil to write the equations -- which would be much simpler. Just don't.

Then Astronaut drifts in space and is found somewhere near is 102nd birthday.

Mercifully the movie ends.
