Once you factor in each team's respective competition, then it looks like a
toss-up, which explains the relatively close opening line.
I think it's going to be a fun game. Big game for both teams.
Under FEI:
Their offense (#26) is better than BYU's offense (#33).
Their defense (#61) is the same as BYU's defense (#62).
Their special teams (#79) is worse than BYU's (#47).
Under S&P+:
Offense: BYU (#35) is ranked higher than Cal (#41).
Defense: BYU (#61) is ranked higher than Cal (#87).
