Frankly, he has no business losing to Boise or UCF
But if you think that at least half of all the angst currently built up is not based in envy over what Utah has and BYU doesn't, then you are blind.
If Utah was in the MWC and we were independent and were 8-5 for two years (probably three) in a row, you would not see such angst, especially if the CFP hadn't happened yet.
