Bronco has a problem next year with no good solutions.
Set aside the "fire Bronco" for a moment. It's not happening this year anyway. And look at what his coaching options are for next year.

Last year, the O-Line was the worst position group on the team, and the single biggest factor in the games BYU lost. The weren't tough, they weren't mean, they didn't have good technique, etc, etc.

So Bronco promotes Howell do DC and he concentrates on putting nastiness and toughness into the O-Line. Our O-Line is much better this year. Not great, but much better.

Now, Howell was obviously the wrong guy. But can Bronco do?

Do you turn that O-Line back over to coaches who already failed once? If you become the DC again (which most on CB seem to want). Do you hire a new O-Line coach, or simply hope and pray your current O-Line coach is better than he was the last time? Do you just hire a completely new DC from outside the program?

I think these are some tough decisions. And will probably determine if Bronco gets his contract extended next year or not.
