I think the coaches harp on execution in public for a few reasons
1 - There is a lack of talent. But a coach is never going to say that his current crop of players just aren't talented enough. That makes him and the players just look bad.

2 - Watching film it's pretty easy to see that the defense wasn't executing at the most basic of levels with regards to the defensive scheme and just all around basic defensive fundamentals. The scheme is sound but the players aren't even executing it at the most basic of levels at times. To a coach, this has to be very, very frustrating. What can you do in this situation? Adjust the scheme? That won't work. Maybe the current scheme isn't perfect, but if your players lack basic fundamentals what are you going to do?

So this is why Bronco harps on execution. It's the one thing they can address right now. He can't magically go get a front line that will apply consistent pressure this season.
