Special Teams Issues
There have been some very strong and quite poor areas of special teams this season. Hopefully the struggles have been noticed by coaches and are getting attention so they can be improved in the final two games. My assessment:

Kickoffs (the actual kick) Poor. I watched games as sea level Saturday where kickoffs are going deep into or out of the endzone. Must be significantly improved.

Kick off coverage - generally poor. We have given up way to much ground here, though no home runs that I recall. The last couple of games against crap teams they have been starting at the 35 regularly. Cal will hurt us if we give them short fields like that.

Kick off returns - Decent. Housed one. Protected the ball well. lots of penalties is the only negative

Punting (the actual punt) - Excellent. Best area of Special Teams, although he occasionally hits one weird he has been quite consistent.

Punt coverage - average at best, bordering on poor. Hasn't burned us but has been lacking and was down right bad against UNLV.

Punt Returns - Poor at best. At least 3 (probably more) muffed punts resulting in turn overs in bad field position. Rarely are the gunners even being accompanied by blockers, or a wall being set up, yet we still get a ton of holding calls. Blackmon appears to have no concept of returning punts from what I can tell and both main returners have made questionable "catch it or don't catch it" decisions. Definite need for improvement here.

FG kicking - Solid. Not great range but better than a number of college teams including BYU in recent times. Could still be improved with some range.

That's all I've got. Thoughts?
